Leif Erickson day set

— Storyteller and performer Douglas A. (Dag) Rossman will help the campus observe Leif Erikson Day Tuesday when he speaks about ancient Nordic spirituality.
Rossman, from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, will discuss “Ancient Nordic Spirituality: The Northern Path to Wisdom and Balance,” at 7 p.m. in Minnesota State’s Wissink Hall 285.
His talk is free and open to the public.
The day also will be observed with another talk, a fundraiser and a discussion of Scandinavian exchange programs.
A reception with refreshments and book-signing will follow Rossman’s performance.
Rossman has published several books, including “Norse Myths and Legends Retold … And What They Reveal.” Other Rossman books include “Theft of the Sun and Other New Norse Myths,” “The Nine Worlds: A Dictionary of Norse Mythology,” and “Where Legends Live.”
Other Leif Erikson Day events include:
n A talk by Aaron Solomonson about the “The Minnesota National Guard and the Norwegian Home Guard: Shared Winter Warfare and Survival Training.” Solomonson took part in the 34th annual U.S.-Norway troop exchange in February. He will speak at 10 a.m. in Armstrong Hall 221.
n A pancake sale fundraiser by the Scandinavian Club, whose members will sell Swedish pancakes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the CSU.
n An informational meeting about new exchange programs with Sweden, Norway and Finland. The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. in the new International Center in Centennial Student Union room 250, and free pizza will be available for all participants.
The campus event is funded through the Scandinavian Studies Foundation and the International Center, and organized by the Scandinavian Studies Program.
