Train crash victim's condition improves

WELLS

A man who lost his arm when it was run over by a train in Wells Thursday remains hospitalized but is improving.

Duane Giese, 51, has had his condition upgraded from serious to fair at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He is being treated there for injuries he received to his arms, one foot and head when he was run over by a train.

Giese was waiting for the train to pass and crawled under a car after it stopped. His right arm was cut off below the elbow after the train started moving in the opposite direction. His left arm was fractured, a foot was cut open and his head also was injured, his family reported.
