MANKATO

Ever been to Playa Del Carmen?

Thursday’s temperature in the seaside town reached a balmy 86 degrees. And locals say the views of the Caribbean are sensational this time of year.

How about Guatemala, the Central American country renowned for its mountainous landscape and tropical forests?

Ever flown a private jet from Mankato to Red Wing and back? Or viewed a sports contest from the VIP seats?

Few have. And that’s why Mankato Loyola is bringing the lap of luxury to Mankato’s doorstep for its annual Wired to the Heart fundraiser, which will be held Saturday night at Minnesota State University’s Ballroom.

“We just want to bring the community together and have a nice party,” said Alyssa Fogal, director of marketing and admissions at Mankato Loyola.

The fundraiser benefits science and technology initiatives for Loyola students and includes a dinner, live and silent auctions and raffles.

“And we have a few surprises planned, too,” Fogal said.

The live auction begins after the 8 p.m. dinner and will include vacation packages to Playa Del Carmen, Guatemala and other such winter-friendly destinations. There are also sports tickets and a private fly-in to the St. James Hotel in Red Wing for dinner.

There also will be a raffle for an ATV or $5,000 cash and a key contest for a piece of fine jewelry from Patterson Diamond Center.
