Published December 05, 2008 09:15 am - John Osnes, pounded hood of rappers car in frustration.

Former Madelia resident killed
Rapper Dave Monopoly charged in L.A. incident

A former Madelia resident is dead and a Swedish rapper has been charged with his murder following a bizarre road-rage incident in Hollywood.

John Osnes, 55, was punched, kicked, and run over by an SUV driven by David Jassy, aka Dave Monopoly, who remains jailed following the Nov. 24 incident.

According to an account in the Los Angeles Times, the rented vehicle Jassy was driving edged into a crosswalk where Osnes was walking.

Osnes showed his irritation by slamming his hands on the hood of the vehicle. Jassy emerged, pummeled Osnes to the ground, then ran over him with the SUV before driving off.

The incident was witnessed by bystanders including an off-duty police officer.

Jassy was later arrested after the vehicle’s license was traced. He has been in the United States since October.

Osnes, born in Forest City, Iowa, lived in Madelia during his childhood and high school years. He was a jazz pianist who performed in the Twin Cities in the 1970s and 1980s.

He moved to New York in 1987, then to California in 2005, where he developed a following as a performer in a Hollywood piano bar.
