International enrollment up at MSU

---- — MANKATO — Minnesota State University has moved up from a ranking of 38th to 34th nationally among master’s institutions in international student population, according to an annual Open Doors Report recently released by the Institute of International Education.

The report listed MSU as having 885 international students, up from 770 in the 2012 report.

MSU’s international student enrollment has been on the rise in the last eight years with a 72 percent increase between the 2005 and 2012 fall terms.

According to the Open Doors Report and The Association for International Educators analysis, MSU international students and their families contributed $19.2 million to the local economy during the 2012-13 year, up $3 million from the same report issued one year ago.

The university’s enrollment goals include increasing overall student enrollment from its current 15,409 to 17,000.

In 2013, MSU has international students from 90 different nations with the most students coming from Saudi Arabia, Nepal and South Korea.
