JANESVILLE — A fire burned through an estimated 100 acres of mostly swamp about four miles south of Janesville Saturday afternoon.
No one was hurt and no structures were threatened, Janesville Fire Chief Randy Cummins said.
The fire started in a road ditch — Cummins isn’t sure how — and moved into the cattails surrounding Buffalo Lake.
“Once it got in the cattails it kept moving,” he said.
Cummins said the wind moved the flames away from structures in the area.
He said the burned swamp was mostly conservation land managed by the Department of Natural Resources.
