Scheherazade rescheduled to Sunday
Be ready to spend Sunday afternoon listening to storytelling and Mankato Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra’s rescheduled performance of “Scheherazade” begins 3 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium of Mankato West High School.
Rimsky-Korsakov’s orchestral suite, “Scheherazade” is inspired by tales from the classic “1,001 Arabian Nights.” Each movement consists of a series of stories with the violin solos acting as the voice of Scheherazade, a young woman who tells stories to her capturer as a way save her life. Violinist Lydia Miller plays the role of the storyteller.
Also planned during the concert is a performance by pianist John Novacek of Tchaikovsky’s famous piano concerto No. 1 in B flat. Novacek is winner of the Leschetizky and Joanna Hodges international piano competitions.
A January snowstorm forced the orchestra to reschedule.
Ticket costs range from $25 for $15 for adults. Admission fee for youths under age 18 is $5 for seating in all sections.
