MANKATO — A man was arrested this morning in the Mankato hilltop area following a vehicular police chase that ended with a foot pursuit of the fleeing suspect.
Mankato police said they received a 911 call about 7:30 a.m. from a male employee of Verizon Wireless store on Madison Avenue, who reported that an unknown person had accosted him in a parking lot adjacent to the store.
The employee said the suspect flattened one of his car tires with a puncture, but the employee drove off anyway out of fear for his safety.
The employee called police as he was being pursued by the suspect, who was driving a pickup truck.
About 45 minutes later an officer located the suspect's vehicle. The driver didn't stop on command and a pursuit ensued in the hilltop area as the pickup driver attempted to ram squad cars.
A Blue Earth County Sheriff's deputy eventually rammed the truck with his squad car, forcing the truck onto a residential boulevard in the Fair Street area.
The suspect then took off running, was apprehended after a half-block chase and taken to jail.
Charges are pending. No names have been released.
