Blue Earth County wants business recycling data

The Mankato Free Press

---- — MANKATO — Blue Earth County is asking businesses in the county for help in compiling recycling data that must be forwarded to the state each year.

The annual report by the Select Committee on Recycling and the Environment requires Minnesota counties to provide tonnages for many types of items including appliances, used oil and filters, waste tires and most everything in between.

Businesses throughout the county have been mailed forms to report recycling volumes for 2013, and businesses are asked to return completed forms by Feb. 28. An online version is available at www.blueearthcountymn.gov/businessrecycleform.

Business participation helps ensure accurate recycling measurements are collected and that important information is gathered for local and statewide planning efforts and future recycling/solid waste programs, according to the county's Environmental Services Department. Data provided by area businesses is released only as a composite number and individual reports are not available to the public or the state.

Blue Earth County has achieved one of the highest recycling rates in the state — including a rate of 55 percent for 2012. More information or a hard copy of the recycling reporting form can be obtained from Blue Earth County Recycling Coordinator Jean Lundquist at (507) 304-4440 or by email at jean.lundquist@blueearthcountymn.gov.
