---- — MONTGOMERY — A 47-year-old man is dead and his 18-year-old son in custody after a shooting near Montgomery Monday night, a Le Sueuer County Sheriff's Department report said.

Deputies responded to a report of a man being shot in the head at 10604 Le Sueur Ave. at about 11 p.m. Richard Joseph Nelson was killed by a gunshot to the head and his son, Jonas David Nelson, was quickly located and arrested, the report said.

The sheriff's department said there are no other suspects.

It's not clear whether Jonas Nelson lived with his father at the time. On his Facebook page, he said he has been living with his mother's parents since August 2010. He also said he was leaning toward seeking a college degree in criminology.

A man who answered his grandmother's phone in Prior Lake declined comment.

Jonas' mother, Kristina Renee Singer, was awarded custody of him in 2011, according to court documents. At the time, she lived in Prior Lake.

On Facebook, Kristina Singer thanked those who are standing with her family and wrote "I love you Jonas — and I always will ....."

Neighbor Tony Griffith said Richard Nelson was a nice, helpful man who greeted him with pie when Griffith moved to the rural neighborhood about 11 years ago. Griffith, a mechanic, worked on Nelson's cars and the two shared burgers during Griffith's movie nights.

Griffith said he didn't know much about Jonas, and had no explanation for the alleged shooting.

The shooting remains under investigation, and charges are expected Wednesday.
