— Rep. Tim Walz’s “Hermann the German” hotdish — a concoction of tater tots, cheese, brats and Schell’s Beer — has taken top honors in an annual contest among Minnesota’s congressional delegation.
The recipe, created by the Walz office, was judged the best hotdish among the nine-member delegation Wednesday.
Sen. Al Franken holds the friendly contest as a way for the delegation to get together and celebrate a Minnesota tradition.
The contest the declared the Mankato Democrat the winner was judged by former Rep. Vin Weber, a Republican, and former Rep. Gerry Sikorski, a Democrat.
Last year, Franken and former Rep. Chip Cravaack tied for first, while Sen. Amy Klobuchar won in 2011.
