YMCA to host skate park meeting

MANKATO — The Mankato Family YMCA will hold a public meeting Thursday to seek input on the location for rebuilding the Roller Sport Park.

YMCA CEO John Kind said they've done their own research and are poised to rebuild on the existing site. But to make sure everyone who wants to be heard gets a chance, they're holding the public meeting before moving forward. Kind said that if viable options are presented at the meeting, they'll consider them.

Good sites, Kind said, would be centrally located in the community so skaters can easily access the park. Cost of acquiring a site is also a key factor. A lower price of acquisition would give a site higher priority.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the YMCA.

The Chesley Roller Sport Park was destroyed by fire Feb. 1. As a temporary fix, the Y plans to use the vacant fire station on Madison Avenue for skaters until a new park is built. That park is tentatively planned to be built in conjunction with a youth center.
