MANKATO — Police responding to a report of a suspicious package at a downtown bank Thursday morning cleared the scene after discovering a 12-pound powder can was empty except for a small amount of change.
A 911 caller reported the can, which had the word "explosive" on it, was next to the TCF Bank at 325 S. Broad St. at about 8:15 a.m. Officers responded along with firefighters to check on the situation.
The top was off the can, so an officer or firefighter looked inside and found out there was no gunpowder inside. There was some change that added up to less than a dollar, said Cmdr. Dan Schisel.
