Capstone to make major donation

MANKATO — Mankato-based book publisher Capstone will announce a donation of 500,000 books — worth an estimated $5 million — to Books for Africa at the organization’s 25th anniversary gala event Friday.

Books for Africa is the world’s largest shipper of donated text and library books to the African continent. Books donated to the program include titles from the publishers’ imprints Capstone Press, Capstone Young Readers, Compass Point Books, Heinemann Raintree, Picture Window Books and Stone Arch Books.

Books for Africa is a nonprofit organization based in St. Paul and has shipped more than 20 million books to 44 African countries since it was founded in 1988.
