---- — MANKATO — Once in a while, everybody needs a haircut.
And the Greek community at Minnesota State University is hoping that, if the time is now to get your locks trimmed, that you’ll spend your beauty budget for a good cause.
MSU will be hosting “Klips for Kids,” a goodwill haircut event to benefit Gillette Children’s hospital. About 10 area stylist companies have stepped up to offer services from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Hearth Lounge of the Centennial Student Union.
“They’ll be doing haircuts, styles, manicures and eyebrow waxing,” said Sarah Schliesmann, graduate advisor to the Greek community.
Hosted by MSU Greek Life, the services are being offered by the stylists at no cost, but the MSU students involved are hoping people will give a $10 freewill donation for the cause. The “Klips for Kids” funds will go to support the larger fundraiser, the annual Dance Marathon, which is Feb. 1, 2014.
Schliesmann said it’s the first time the event is being offered on campus. She said the group is estimating about 100 people to participate, which could mean $1,000 raised.
“We’re constantly looking for ways throughout the year to raise money,” Schliesmann said.
Radio station Hot 96.7 FM will be on site to play music and give away prizes.
The MSU Greek community has had a presence on campus for more than 50 years and is made up of 400 students from 13 fraternities and sororities.
