OWATONNA — The 2014 election campaign is coming to south-central Minnesota on Election Day 2013. Republican candidates hoping to be their party's nominee against Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton will be debating at the Owatonna Country Club on Nov. 5, which is Election Day in cities and school districts that hold off-year elections.
All of the announced candidates have been invited and four — Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson, former state House Speaker Kurt Zellers of Maple Grove, state Sen. Dave Thompson of Lakeville and Fridley businessman Scott Honour — have promised to attend.
The 7 p.m. debate is being sponsored by the Republican Party organizations in Steele, Rice and Waseca counties. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Twin Cities talk radio hosts Jack Tomczak and Ben Kruse will serve as debate moderators.
