NORTH MANKATO — After two years of construction, the Highway 14/Nicollet County Road 41 interchange officially opened for business Friday with area legislators and dignitaries on hand to celebrate.
The total project cost of the project was about $19 million for engineering, land acquisition and construction of four lanes to Nicollet County Road 6 and an interchange with County Road 41. The project also included three roundabouts associated with County Road 41.
The traveling public will now be able to experience the following benefits, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation:
• Increased highway capacity by extending the four-lane by an additional two miles
• A new connection to the North Port Industrial Park for local development
• Improved access management with new interchange at Nicollet County Road 41
• Improved safety by removing Nicollet County Road 6 crossing
MnDOT, Nicollet County and the city of North Mankato partnered on the project. Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye was the prime contractor for both the 2012 and 2013 projects.
