MANKATO — There will be a wide variety of events available to the public today and Sunday for the Mankato Marathon event.
Starting today, the Scheels Sport & Health Expo will run from noon to 7 p.m. at the Myers Field House in Mankato. New events include the Toddler Trot race at 1 p.m. and the Diaper Dash event at 1:10 p.m.
A major element of the Expo will be the Orthopaedic & Fracture Clinc Speaker Series that runs from 1:30 to 7 p.m. The lead speaker will be Katherine Switzer, the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon, at 5:30 p.m.
Additionally, the YMCA KidsK will start at Parking Lot 21 at MSU with line up for the race at 2:15 p.m. Kids age 7 to 12 will begin at 2:30 p.m. and kids age 6 and under will begin at 2:45 p.m.
Finally, the Pork Power 5K will also be held at Parking Lot 21 at MSU at 4 p.m. The awards for the race will be give out during the OFC Speaker Series at the Scheel's Expo in Myers Fieldhouse at 5:15 p.m.
On Sunday, the various Marathon, Half Marathon, Relay and 10K races will be held in the morning.
The first race will be the I&S Group 10K Race starting at its own start line at 7:30 a.m. The award ceremony for the 10K will be held at 9:30 a.m.
Then, the Mankato Marathon, Half Marathon and Relay will begin at 8 a.m. Post-race festivities will begin in front of the Verizon Wireless Center at 8:30 a.m. Award ceremonies will be held for the Half Marathon at 11:15 a.m. and for both the Marathon and Relay at 1 p.m. The events will wrap up around 2:30 p.m.
