The Mankato Free Press
---- — Any distance runner will say the sport is as much mental as it is physical. Runners will work hard to keep their minds focused during Sunday’s Mankato Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K races. But Saturday it was all kids stuff during the Toddler Trot, Diaper Dash and Kids K.
The Kids K has been a part of the Marathon activities since its inception in 2010. This year, organizers added races for even younger kids to enjoy in the Toddler Trot (a 50-yard dash for ages 2-5) and the Diaper Dash (a 10-yard walk or crawl for those up to 24 months). Organizers hoped that adding the kids races and other activities for young ones would allow more families to enjoy the expo and Sunday’s Marathon events together.
The events were part of the Scheels Sport and Health Expo at Minnesota State University’s Myers Field house. The expo serves as a check-in point for more than 4,000 runners in Sunday’s races, a place where they can pick up race bags and information. Vendors and speakers provide information for runners on a host of topics and runners can purchase some last minute running clothing and supplies.
