---- — A Minnesota State University alumnus, author and former aide to Gen. David Petraeus died Thursday.

Lt. Col Mark Weber, 41, of Rosemount wrote “Tell My Sons” after a diagnosis of stage IV intestinal cancer. The book is in the form of letters Weber wrote to his sons.

Weber presented a lecture at his alma mater, Minnesota State University, in January.

After graduating from MSU with honors in 1994, he went on to an Army career that included multiple deployments, one of which was in Iraq working on the personal staff of Gen. David Petraeus in 2005-06.

His story is featured in Parade magazine on Sunday, Father’s Day. A story about Weber, written by Free Press reporter Amanda Dyslin, was published Jan. 30 in The Free Press.
