MANKATO — A 20-year-old North Mankato man who assaulted another man and threatened him with a pistol has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Kamau Evans was sentenced in Blue Earth County District Court after pleading guilty to felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a pistol or assault weapon.
Court records show that Evans accosted the victim at a Dec. 29 party at a Mankato residence on the 200 block of Wickfield Drive.
The victim who, like Evans, was on probation at the time, heard that police were about to arrive and wanted to flee.
As the victim was leaving, he was confronted at the door by a man who punched him in the head. Moments later the victim was attacked by the man and by Evans, who then went to a vehicle and returned wielding a handgun and threatening him.
Charges against the other man have been dropped.
Evans was on probation for his part in a bank robbery three years ago.
