SLEEPY EYE — A 53-year-old New Ulm woman died from injuries suffered in a head-on vehicle crash this morning.

Karen M. Branch was driving a 2001 GMC Sierra west on Highway 14 near its intersection with 250th Avenue when the truck and an eastbound 2001 Ford Econoline collided in the highway's east lane, the State Patrol said. Branch died at the scene.

The driver of the Econoline, Roddy J. Verschelde, 52, of North Mankato, is in serious condition at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

The crash closed both lanes of Highway 14 east of Sleepy Eye for several hours.
