Crash near Nicollet causes power outages

NICOLLET — A one-vehicle crash Saturday at 2:07 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 14 and Highway 99, resulting in power outages for Nicollet residents.

A 2005 Toyota Corolla driven by Ryan Scott Ellingson, 19, left the road on the westbound lanes of Highway 14. The vehicle drove into the ditch and collided with a utility pole, knocking the pole to the ground. Ellingson's hometown was not listed in the report, but the vehicle is registered to an address in Courtland.

Ellingson received no serious injuries as a result of the crash, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Due to the severe damage to the power lines and pole, at least 586 Xcel customers suffered through a power outage from 2:07 a.m. to 9:10 a.m., according to Xcel Energy officials. The utility pole had to be replaced and the power lines had to be repaired. Xcel Energy official said power has been fully restored.

The Nicollet County Sheriff's Office and the State Patrol responded to the crash.
