MANKATO — A Mankato man was arrested Sunday morning for attempting to rob a cab driver.

Police arrested Cody Stanton-Bridges, 19, on the 700 block of South Second Street at 4:19 a.m. Sunday.

At 3:09 a.m., a cab driver reported he picked up two males near the intersection of Riverfront Drive and Main Street. The cab driver became suspicious about the addresses they wanted to go to because both addresses were for businesses that were closed. The cab driver pulled over at South Second and Walnut streets and asked the two men to leave the cab.

One passenger complied, the other made an unsuccessful attempt to take the driver’s money bag before getting out.

The suspect kicked the vehicle repeatedly and then left the scene. Police officers determined the suspect was Stanton-Bridges and apprehended him a short time later at a nearby residence. Charges being requested include attempted robbery, possession of marijuana and underage consumption of alcohol.

The cab driver was not injured in the incident.

The other passenger, Howard Donte Hodges, 22, of Mankato, was arrested as well for violating a judge's conditions from a pending criminal case. But instead of being jailed, Hodges was placed in a detox facility in New Ulm.

Police say Stanton-Bridges was also under the influence of alcohol, but not enough to warrant placement in a detox facility.
