Vehicle runs through Mankato intersection, slams into house

MANKATO — A vehicle sped through a stop sign at a T-intersection, jumped into a yard and crashed through the front of a house, causing extensive damage to the home Thursday afternoon.

The sole occupant of the vehicle was taken away by ambulance after being extracted and appeared to be responsive.

The crash happened after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Balcerzak Drive and Warren Street near the Minnesota State University campus.

Dave Vogel was stopped at the stop sign on Warren when the accident happened.

“I saw them coming just full speed (down Balcerzak). They just kept on going, never slowed down,” Vogel said. “I just pulled over and called 911.”

The vehicle was nearly half way into the home and had been pushed upward into the house by the front steps. Rescue personnel quickly put a jack under the sagging roof of the house to prevent it from collapsing.
