MANKATO — Congressman Tim Walz will be the ranking member of the Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy, and Forestry this term, making him the top Democrat on the committee.

The subcommittee has jurisdiction over soil, water and resource conservation, energy and bio-based energy production, rural electrification and many forestry programs.

“I look forward to working with both my Republican and Democratic colleagues on the subcommittee to promote energy independence and to ensure our wildlife and hunting habitats that we cherish in Minnesota and around the country are protected for generations to come,” Walz said in a statement following his selection for the post.

Walz also used the announcement to renew his call for passage of a five-year farm bill, which passed the Senate last year but stalled in the House.
