LAKE WASHINGTON — A man was taken into custody and brought to a hospital for evaluation after a law enforcement search that started with a report of a gun threat Tuesday morning.
The man was not being identified Wednesday because he was still being treated at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, said Chief Deputy David Tietz of the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Department. Reports from the incident are being sent to the Le Sueur County attorney’s office for possible criminal charges, he added.
A half hour search for the man started after a resident on Crystal Cove Road, which is along the southwest shore of Lake Washington, called to report a suspicious person at about 7:30 a.m. The woman reported the man opened the door of her house and mentioned something about a gun before running away.
The woman didn’t know the man, but Tietz said the man was familiar with the area.
A short time later more people called 911 to report a partially nude man was walking along nearby Limberdink Road, which is also along Lake Washington’s southwest shoreline. Those callers said the man was holding a knife to his throat.
The man wasn’t immediately found when Le Sueur deputies arrived. Deputies from Blue Earth and Nicollet counties also responded to the area to assist with a search before the man was eventually found. He still had a large knife to his throat and was asking deputies for help, a Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Department news release said.
Blue Earth County sheriff’s deputies also received a report of a burglary at a residence west of Lake Washington, near the airport, around the same time. That incident was not related, said Capt. Rich Murry of the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Department.
The man eventually dropped the knife after deputies used a tasing device to subdue him. The State Patrol, Kasota Fire and Rescue and St. Peter Ambulance also responded to the incident.
