A man planning to smoke marijuana with a female friend ended up being robbed at knifepoint during an incident in the 100 block of Homestead Road early Saturday morning, Mankato police said.
Police were sent to the residence after the 22-year-old male victim called 911 at about 1:15 a.m. to report he had been robbed by a woman who put a knife to his throat, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday in Blue Earth County District Court.
The victim, who is only identified by initials in the complaint, said he had trouble pronouncing the woman's name, but an officer who responded knew who he was talking about from prior incidents, the complaint said. An address was used to link the woman to where the robbery occurred. Kuek is a Mankato resident and the victim is from India, said Cmdr. Dan Schisel of the Mankato Department of Public Safety.
The victim said he was in an apartment with 19-year-old Nyapuot Dech Kuek because the two were planning to smoke marijuana. At one point she reached into a jacket the victim was wearing for a pack of cigarettes and also pulled out $60 in cash, the victim reported.
The man said he owed Kuek money, but he told her not to take it. A fight started in the apartment's bathroom after Kuek put the cash into her bra, the victim reported. During the struggle, Kuek pulled out a knife, put it to the victim's throat and told him to give her all of the money in his pockets. The man said he offered his cellphone for leverage for what he owed Kuek, but she and three or four more people fought him to take another $40 from his hand.
When officers went to the apartment to question people there, a man and woman told them the victim was being aggressive. They said Kuek and the man had been arguing about money all night before a fight started in the bathroom.
Money was allegedly found in Kuek's bra after she was located and arrested, the complaint said. She appeared in court Monday for felony charges of first- and second-degree robbery with a dangerous weapon.
