MANKATO — Police arrested a Mankato man early Sunday morning who they say was physically and verbally assaulting people downtown and tried to start a fire.
Reis Allan Tueffel, 25, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when police arrested him on the 400 block of South Broad Street in Mankato. Witnesses say he assaulted two different people, neither of whom required medical attention. Tueffel suffered a cut, police said, near his left eye. He reportedly had tried to set fire to a shrub near the area where the alleged assault occurred.
Police said the witnesses who reported being assaulted were not friends with Tueffel, but did live in the same building.
Pending charges include second-degree assault, fifth-degree arson and terroristic threats, all of which would be felonies.
