Felony charges requested for hospital assault

MANKATO — A North Mankato man who went to the hospital for help because he was very intoxicated ended up going to jail instead after he assaulted hospital staff.

Dallas Dean Madson, 39, had a blood-alcohol concentration of about .25, three times the legal limit of .08 for driving, when he sought medical help for his intoxication at about 10 p.m. Saturday. He allegedly assaulted emergency room staff when he was told he was going to a detoxification center for treatment.

Assaulting emergency medical personnel is a felony crime, Cmdr. Sandi Schnorenberg said Monday. After the assault, Madson could no longer be taken to detox.

"Jail probably would have been the only place that could have taken him if he was that combative," she said.
