Grass walk Tuesday in Linnaeus Arboretum

Take a walk through tall grass 6-7 p.m. Tuesday and find out which native plants made horses run faster, which ones were tinder for wildfires and where patches of original prairie can be found.

Arboretum Naturalist Scott Moeller will lead a walk through the tall grass prairies of the Linnaeus Arboretum on campus at Gustavus Adolphus College.

This is a free program, but registration is required and may be made by calling 933-6184.

Motocross kicks off Faribault Co. Fair

The 153rd Faribault County Fair features grandstand shows tonight through Saturday in Blue Earth.

Motocross racing starts 7 p.m. tonight at the grandstand, a 4-H fashion revue is slated 6 p.m. Tuesday, United Pullers of Minnesota’s show starts 7 p.m. Wednesday, and a free bluegrass concert begins 7 p.m. Thursday. An antique tractor pull at 11 a.m. and a demo derby at 7:30 p.m. are Saturday’s grandstand events.

Antique tractor pull in Lafayette

Lafayette’s 10th annual antique tractor pull Saturday will feature farmers’ sentimental favorites. Participating tractors were manufactured in 1959 or earlier.

Weigh-in is 8:30 a.m. and the pull begins 11 a.m. near the UFC Co-op. Events are planned for factory stock, hobby stock and powder puff classes.

Blues on Belgrade kicks off with pub crawl

A Belgrade Avenue Pub Crawl Friday night precedes a daylong blues concert in lower North Mankato.

Blues on Belgrade’s Saturday lineup starts with music by the Echoes at noon, followed by Don Scott and Curtis Blake, City Mouse All-Stars and Funcktion Junction. Smokin’ Joe Kubek and Bnois King’s show at 9:30 p.m. wraps up the bluesfest.

There is no admission fee, but free-will offerings will be appreciated. Food and craft vendors will be on the grounds.

Veterans car, bike show in Mankato

The Minnesota Veterans Classic Car and Bike Show will start 8 a.m. Sunday (rain or shine) at Sibley Park in Mankato.

There is no admission fee and the event is open to the public. The award ceremony begins at 3 p.m. Sunday.
