With 435 representatives in the U.S. House, some members of Congress are little more than casual acquaintances.
That wasn’t the case for Rep. Tim Walz and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona congresswoman who was critically wounded in an assassination attempt Saturday in Tucson.
The two Democrats shared a similar ideology, similar districts, similar re-election races and the same floor of the Longworth House Office Building, Walz said.
“I felt very close to and feel very close to Gabrielle,” the Mankato congressman said Monday. “She’s a very special person.”
