The first competition of the year can be pretty intense for a competitive marching band. The techniques learned during the long practices of early summer are put to use for the first time. The marching bands competing in Lake Crystal's Battle of the Bands got to try out their summer routines in competition for the first time during the Lake Crystal City Celebration (formerly Duck Days) parade Friday.
Band members scrambled around during the final moments before lining up for the parade getting uniforms on, warming up drum and flag corps and practicing their marching routines one last time before appearing in front of the throngs of people lining Lake Crystal's downtown. Of course, the people they really have to impress are the judges.
