MANKATO — The 500 block of South Front Street — the block containing entertainment businesses including Pub 500 and Pagliai's Pizza — will be reopened by Thursday, the day the Minnesota Vikings training camp begins.
The downtown district has seen a series of street closures this summer as office towers are being constructed on the 500 block and as the city constructs new pedestrian areas in the 500 and 600 blocks of South Front.
The pedestrian walkway work is aimed at providing more spacious sidewalks, patio seating outside bars/restaurants, more trees, a few additional parking spaces and room for community events.
The 600 block of South Front will remained closed longer, with that block to be open no later than Aug. 15.
The city recently reopened Cherry Street near Front Street after road work was done in that area.
