— The final Environmental Impact Statement has been prepared for the proposed south mine in Kasota Township, Le Sueur County and is available for a 10-day public comment period.
The EIS, required by the state, evaluates the potential of significant environmental effects, considers alternatives to the proposed project, and explores methods for reducing adverse environmental effects.
Unimin Corp. proposes the continuation of open pit non-metallic mineral mining of the Jordan sandstone to produce industrial sand. Blasting, crushing, dewatering, size classification, and reclamation activities will occur on approximately 1,188 acres.
The public comment period on the adequacy of the FEIS will run from Nov. 26 to Dec. 10th.
Comments on the adequacy of the FEIS should be submitted in writing by 4:30 p.m. Dec. 10 and should be directed to: Kathy Brockway, Planning & Zoning Administrator, Le Sueur County, 88 South Park Ave, Le Center, MN 56057; firstname.lastname@example.org.
Copies of the FEIS are available for public review during regular business hours at the Le Sueur County Environmental Services office in Le Center, the Mankato and St. Peter libraries and on the Le Sueur County website: co.le-sueur.mn.us.
