NORTH MANKATO — The 2012 CityArt People’s Choice Award Winner, “Guidance,” will be installed Friday on the 400 Block of Belgrade Avenue.
The bronze sculpture featuring colorful birds perched atop stacked rocks or cairns represents life’s journey and the many paths taken. It was sculpted by Deb Zelenak of Wyoming,
In addition to “Guidance,” since the sculpture tour’s inception in 2011, CityArt has added three additional sculptures to the City Center’s permanent public art collection. They are the 2011 People’s Choice sculpture “Reading Magic,”now in front of the Blue Earth County Library; “Going for the Goal,” which was purchased through a community fundraising campaign and will be installed in front of the Verizon Civic Center; and “Chasing My Tail Again,” which was donated to the City Center Partnership by the sculptor, Matt Miller, and will be installed on Second Street.
CityArt is an exhibit of outdoor sculptures displayed year-round in the City Centers of Mankato and North Mankato. Local, regional and national artists submit their sculptures to CityArt in the fall and if selected, the sculptures are installed in May and exhibited in the program for nearly one year. The next installation is scheduled for May 18.
CityArt is a program of the City Center Partnership and a collaborative effort with Twin Rivers Council of the Arts.
