MANKATO — Minnesota State University graduate Katelyn Romsa spoke of feelings common to college students during her commencement speech Saturday: Fear, excitement, apprehension, joy. For her, those emotions took on a unique perspective on the student experience.
Romsa was the first student to complete the new Doctor of Education degree program at MSU. She was also the only Doctoral candidate in Saturday’s commencement receiving her doctoral hood during a brief ceremony before diplomas were handed to the remaining graduates.
Her status as a Doctor of Education in counselor education and supervision makes her unique as the first to complete the program, but also makes her a member of a distinguished group of academics, those who can precede their name with the title, “Dr.”
