MANKATO — A 44-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly sexually assaulting a 31-year-old woman in a downtown bus shelter.
A passerby called police at about 4:30 a.m. to report two people were having sex in the Cherry Street bus shelter in Mankato's downtown entertainment district. When police officers arrived, the woman told them she was being sexually assaulted. Bradley Allen Schluter, no permanent address, was arrested.
The woman's statement and surveillance video from the shelter gave officers probable cause for the arrest, said Cmdr. Dan Schisel. The woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance after the incident.
Schisel also said both the victim and Schluter had been drinking. They did not know each other prior to Saturday night or Sunday morning, but Schisel said he didn't know if the two had met somewhere else prior to the incident.
