---- — MANKATO — Sheri Allen's high expectations for her staff was a point highlighted in the Mankato Area Public Schools superintendent's annual evaluation by the School Board.

At the board meeting Monday night, Board Chair Ann Hendricks outlined the results of Allen's recent closed-session evaluation, which noted she has “impeccable integrity, is responsive to staff and the community (and) is forward-thinking,” among other things.

“All members felt that Supt. Allen has high expectations for all staff members and has facilitated leadership growth in staff,” Hendricks said.

The evaluation indicated Allen looks at the “big picture,” assessing future needs for teaching and learning, enrollment, and facilities.

“She is intimately involved with the business office, which has resulted in a positive budget,” Hendricks said.

The School Board also discussed the results of a self-evaluation, which noted “there is a great respect for each other and that we are a high-functioning board,” Hendricks read. “... The board is a solid functioning body that recognizes no micromanaging or underlying activities are occurring.”

During the recent work session in which the board discussed the evaluation surveys, Hendricks said the board honors each other's decisions.

“Our work is purposeful,” she said. “Look at how our district grows. Look at how our students are achieving.”

Allen said the annual evaluations are the formal side of the process, but valuable feedback is constantly being received from staff, parents, students and each other.
