— August Schell Brewing Company of New Ulm is planning a $2 million expansion project with construction to begin in May.
Schell’s Director of Sales and Marketing Kyle Marti said Tuesday the expansion will increase brewing capacity by 100,000 barrels through the addition of new fermentation tanks and an increase in the size of its bottling facility.
Schell’s now has capacity for 150,000 barrels.
Marti said plans also call for upgrading the brewhouse to a more energy efficient operation.
He earlier told Brewbound.com that the expansion allows the company to capitalize on growing consumer thirst for craft beers.
Schell’s is distributed in seven states, but Marti told the website the expansion will eventually allow the company to enter new markets.
Most of the brewery’s production is dedicated to its Grain Belt line, but Marti said the addition of four fermentation tanks will allow the company to increase production of its craft beers.
Schell’s plans to add four employees to its sales forces but hasn’t said if additional production workers will be hired.
