MANKATO — Motorists can expect temporary left lane and shoulder closures along a section of Highway 14 between Mankato and the Waseca/Steele County border while crews install a high-tension cable median guardrail and shoulder rumble strips. The project will begin Sept. 9.
A total of 10 miles of median guardrail will be installed in the area of the interchanges between Highway 22 in Mankato and the county line. Each interchange will have a mile of guardrail on each side.
The high-tension cable median guardrails are being installed as a prevention measure to keep traffic from crossing the median and hitting on-coming traffic. Studies have shown shoulder rumble strips reduce crashes in which motorists run off the right side of the road.
