Update: $100,000 damage in Broad Street fire; dog died, residents safe

A fire at 515 North Broad Street at 11 a.m. Friday dealt about $100,000 in damage to the home and killed a pet dog, but fire officials say no people were injured.

Mankato Fire Commander Jeff Bengtson said that when firefighters arrived, one of the occupants met them at the front of the residence and told them there was no one on the first floor, but he wasn't sure about the second floor. A sweep of the residence by firefighters found no one in the home.

Bengtson said the fire, which was said to have started on a back porch, was controlled soon after crews arrived, and that they hope to determine a cause for the blaze within a few days.
