A Mankato man was killed when a plane crashed in a field about three miles south of Easton Sunday night. Jeffrey Dean Zabel, 44, died about 8:30 p.m. Sunday near the scene of the crash.
The Faribault County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call at about 7:30 p.m. saying a plane had crashed in a field just north of 160th Street, said Chief Deputy Scott Adams. Emergency crews responded and extricated Zabel who was the pilot and the only person in the plane. Sheriff’s deputies had set up a perimeter of the crash sight and planned to guard the area until investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration arrive today.
