FARIBAULT — The Mankato East/Loyola boys tennis team dropped just five games in singles play Tuesday en route to a 5-2 Big Nine Conference victory over Faribault.
In the No. 3 spot, Chris Liu won 6-0, 6-0. At No. 1 Mason Bultje remained undefeated (12-0) with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Dominic Cannella and Kameron Saiki also won singles matches.
The Cougars got a doubles win from the No. 2 team of Brandon Slonicker and Josh Ouyang.
East/Loyola (7-5, 4-5) will play Thursday at St. Peter.
Owatonna 4, Mankato West 3: Bill Leitch was the Scarlets’ lone singles winner in a Big Nine loss at Owatonna. Leitch was a 6-1, 6-2 winner.
West also received wins from its No. 1 doubles team of Miki Mir and Kieran Townsend (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) and the No. 2 team of Kyle Sandmann and Calvin Miller (6-3, 6-4).
The Huskies won all of its matches in straight sets.
St. James Area, 7, BEA 0: The Saints did not drop a set in the South Central Conference meet at Blue Earth Area.
The most competitive match was at No. 1 doubles where St. James Area’s Will Runge and Aldair Trujillo edged Ben Gettis and Martin Granados in a pair of tiebreakers, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4).
At No. 1 singles, Connor Olson defeated Hunter Myers 6-3, 6-2, and Kilian did the same to Cole Klinksiek at the No. 4 spot.
