New police officers sworn in Friday

MANKATO — Three new Mankato police officers were sworn in and three veteran officers were promoted to the rank of sergeant during a ceremony Friday at the Intergovernmental Center.

The new police patrol officers are Jesus Saenz Jr., Todd DeJong and Chistopher Arkell. Saenz and DeJong are graduates of Minnesota State University with bachelor’s degrees in law enforcement. Arkell graduated from Winona State University with a law enforcement degree and an emphasis in child advocacy studies.

The officers promoted to sergeant are Adam Gray, Jeff Knutson and Justin Neumann. Sergeant is a new police rank between patrol officer and commander for the Department of Public Safety. There are now eight commanders, three sergeants and 38 police officers in the department.
