---- — MANKATO — An argument between two Mankato men at a Liberty Street residence Saturday ended with one man on the sidewalk bleeding and the other in jail.
Police were called to the apartment at about 7:45 p.m. and found the injured man unconscious and bleeding from the mouth. His fiancee was sitting next to him. She told officers she had been drinking beer with a man, later identified as 40-year-old Todd Dale Strenge, when her fiance returned home and became angry.
When the couple asked Strenge to leave, he hit the woman in the head, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday in Blue Earth County District Court. Her boyfriend stepped in to stop Strenge and a fight started between the two men. The couple involved in the incident with Strenge are only identified by initials in the complaint.
The woman said her boyfriend fell to the ground and hit his head when Strenge pushed him outside. Strenge allegedly continued to hit and kick the man while he was on the ground.
Strenge left the apartment on a bicycle and was stopped by an officer responding to the scene. He initially denied knowing about the incident but later told the officer he was defending himself because the man was attacking him. He said the man started punching him outside, so he punched the man.
Other witnesses in the area told police Strenge was the only person throwing punches after the fight moved outside. Strenge has been charged with one felony count of third-degree assault and two gross misdemeanor counts fifth-degree assault.
