Throughout his career, Akerson has received various industry awards and civic honors including So Others Might Eat’s 2011 Humanitarian of the Year, Habitat for Humanity Michigan’s 2013 Sponsor of the Year, The Detroit News’ 2013 Michiganian of the Year, and co-winner of The Detroit Free Press’ Automotive Leadership Award. He has also been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the U.S. military as the recipient of the Marine Corp Scholarship Foundation Leatherneck Award and the U.S. Naval Academy Distinguished Graduate Award.
He currently serves on the boards of the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation, the Tsinghua University (China) School of Economics and Management Advisory Board and the International Business Leaders Advisory Council of Shanghai and as a member of The Business Council, comprising 150 active-member CEOs from the world’s largest businesses.
