MANKATO — A sculpture of a boy reading with his dog at his feet won the People's Choice award and will be purchased by the City Center Partnership and be permanently installed in Mankato.
The sculpture, Saturday Distractions, received the most votes from the public. It was made by Lee Leuning and Sherri Treeby of South Dakota.
It was part of the annual CityArt Walking Sculpture Tour, now in its third year. Next spring, new sculptures will be installed throughout the Mankato and North Mankato city centers.
Another annual recognition is the Best of Show. This year's winning sculptures in “Other Materials” included, Best of Show – Honorable Mention, “Dakota Moon” by Chris Powell of Colorado; Best of Show – Third, “Pagan Apple” by Chris Kilbane of Minnesota; Best of Show – Second, “Prairie Ship” by Greg Mueller of Minnesota; and Best of Show – “Tundra” by Virginia Sperry of Maryland.
Winning sculptures in “Bronze” included, Best of Show – Honorable Mention, “Sitting Bear” by Eric Thorsen of Montana; Best of Show – Third, “Shima” by Martha Pettigrew of Nebraska; Best of Show – Second, “A Bad Hair Day” by Jerry McKellar of Washington; and Best of Show – “A Feather’s Flight” by Deb Zelenak of Wyoming.
The Kids Choice award went to Greg Mueller for his sculpture, “Prairie Ship”. All sculptures, except the People’s Choice winner, are now for sale or lease until April 2014.
