Search continues for assault suspect

Friedrichs fled from deputies Saturday and Tuesday

MANKATO — Area law enforcement cast a wide net across southern Mankato on Tuesday morning looking for a man accused of trying to run over a sheriff's deputy.

Tuesday's encounter began when a Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office deputy on patrol happened to drive past a vehicle driven by Jacob John Friedrichs, a 31-year-old from Mankato. The deputy attempted to pull Friedrichs over in the Southhaven Mobile Home Park, but Friedrichs left his vehicle and ran.

Several law enforcement agencies and canines spanned around the area around Southhaven, but the formal search was unsuccessful and ended by about 1 p.m. Police are still looking for Friedrichs, though he is not considered armed or dangerous, Chief Deputy Mike Maurer said.

Friedrichs is wanted for a Minnesota Department of Corrections warrant and for allegedly attempting to hit a deputy with a car early Saturday morning.
