MANKATO — Police are hoping anyone who finds a sack of quarters in or near the 100 block of Lind Court turns the coins in because they are needed for evidence.

The coins were allegedly stolen during a strong-arm robbery that was reported at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday. A man who was collecting cash from vending machines reported the bag was taken from his truck while he was at the Rodeway Inn, which is near the intersection of Highways 169 and 14.

When the victim saw the suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Jeremiah Reinhardt Mooney, he tried to stop him by taking the bag back, said Cmdr. Jeremy Clifton of the Mankato Department of Public Safety. Mooney allegedly fought back, took a swing at the victim and was able to get away with the bag.

Mooney, who has no permanent address, was arrested nearby, but the bag of change was not found, Clifton said.

Charges of robbery, fifth-degree assault and underage drinking are being requested for Mooney, who was taken to the Blue Earth County Jail after his arrest.
